People often ask me when does a fear become a phobia and what is the difference?
It is generally accepted that when a fear begins to seriously affect your life and prevents you from doing things that you would normally like to do, such as not visiting a friend or family member in a high rise block of flats through your fear of heights, or taking that holiday abroad though your fear of flying, that’s when you can say you have a phobia rather than just a fear of.
Can you believe there are over 500 recognised phobias in the world today and the list just gets longer every year.
From the most common fears of Public Speaking, Spiders and Flying, to less common fears such as Clowns, Paper and String.
To most people there is nothing fearful about a piece of string or paper, but to those who have that fear it is very real and can be hugely debilitating, both physically and emotionally.
